One day you may switch on your laptop and the laptop comes on seems to boot to windows, you can hear windows starting but the image on the screen is very dim and faint. You can just about see the image if you shine a light on it what's going on. Well inside your laptop screen is an inverter. Its not in all laptop screens as some of the new screens out are LED. If your screen image is faint or very dim then you will have a problem with either the inverter or the Tube that is inside the screen. Laptop repairs come in all shapes and sizes, so to speak, but some repairs are more common than others. Bad backlighting is a case in point. In fact, it is one of the most common problems seen in today's repair shops.

You can tell you have a backlight issue if you boot up your computer and only see a very dim image on the screen. The image might even be barely discernible in a brightly lit room or on a sunny day. But as long as you hear the hard drive and fan turning, along with the normal beeps associated with booting, your problem is most likely just a backlighting one. Fortunately, laptop backlights rarely go bad themselves - when they do the entire tube will have to be replaced. More often than not, it will simply be a matter of replacing a burned out inverter.

The inverter looks like an oversized memory stick, which you'll almost always find under the bottom edge of the LCD screen after your remove the bezel. Backlight inverters can be replaced fairly quickly and easily. Just make sure you use a replacement part specifically designed for your laptop, otherwise you could damage the motherboard. If you're uncomfortable doing the repair yourself, you can certainly have a professional do it for you. It's pretty quick and easy to do for most shops.
