Why is my laptop not turning on ?

Problem 1

Blown chips on the motherboard ? Dont worry we replace them....

There are various reasons why your laptop will not turn on

Below are some of the main problems.

Laptop will not turn on

Liquid Damage

One of the most common Causes for a laptop not turning on is Liquid damage. You may have spilt something on your laptop or someone you may know might have spilt liquid on your laptop and kindly not told you about it...Or you may have used your laptop in a bathroom or on a window ledge where there is condensation. You cannot always see condensation, its invisible to the eye but it can get inside your laptop and cause the boot up to fail.

So liquid damage will cause the circuitry in your laptop to fail. Look at the image below.

Imagine the left hand side of the motherboard is taking in 19volts and sending the voltage to other chips in the same sector. Now the right hand side is another sector of the board using 5 volts. What do you think will happen if an integrated circuit chip that has a power maximum of 5 volts now because of the liquid, the chip shorts and the liquid connects the 19 volts and 5 volts of the board together obviously chips will fail fuses will blow diodes will blow capacitors will short and your laptop will not turn on. Hence your motherboard will need to be cleaned and any components not working will need to be replaced. Always keep your laptop well away from bathrooms and condensation. Give us a call and we will repair your laptop if your laptop will not turn on.

Problem 2

Overheating

Another cause of a laptop not booting up or turning on is overheating. Some customers have said to me " my laptop is just outside of the 1 year warranty and its not booting up". Let me explain why this happens. The laptop companies do not put a remote switch inside your laptop to make it switch off. The reasons this happens is because of over heating. look at the image below.

over heating

Your laptop acts like a Hoover it sucks in cool air from outside the laptop and blows out hot air from the processor area. As you can see in the image above the fan grills get blocked up in this image the fan is about 40% blocked. However after a year or two the grills get completely blocked now the laptop cannot breathe the processor gets extremely hot and cannot be cooled down. Underneath the processor is a heat sensor that makes the fan spin and also shuts the laptop off when the heat reaches a critical level. This laptops fan was not spinning at all that's because there were large clumps of dust inside the fan area blocking the fan from spinning. This caused the laptop to switch off every hour or so. The laptop would switch off right in the middle of the customers work. This caused data to be lost. Important windows files where lost. After repairing the fan and replacing the fan, the laptop had to have the files saved from the hard disk and windows reloaded as the shutting of had corrupted the operating system. Can you see how a hardware problem caused a software problem? This is a common cause of a laptop failing to boot up and turn on. . The processor has paste on top of it called heat sink coolant paste after a year or so the paste hardens and needs to be replaced.

Sometimes The power pin is not connected properly to the motherboard one or two of the legs may have bad

contact in this case the pin needs to be replaced.

Sometimes integrated circuit chips are blown on the motherboard. In this case the exact chip that you remove from the motherboard has to be replaced. Once this is done professionally and CAREFULLY the laptop will turn on and boot up.These are the most common causes of a laptop not turning on. There are a few other reasons but give us a call for free advice to get to the root of why your laptop is not turning on.
